Totem

The desire toward the object

is een tentoonstelling van Henrik Kröner (schilderijen), Margriet van Weenen (installaties) en Maria Jager (werken op papier) waarin de verhouding van de kunstenaar met zijn of haar materiaal wordt belicht. De relatie tussen het subject en het object speelt een rol in het werkproces. In het werk bevragen de kunstenaars het ding. De kunstenaars zijn in 2008 en 2009 afgestudeerd aan het Frank Mohr Instituut in Groningen.

Het concept van Margriet van Weenen is gebaseerd op het idee dat elke vorm terugkeert, maar dan in een andere samenstelling. Daarmee gaat haar werk over de spanning tussen tijdelijkheid en een monumentale drang om te blijven bestaan. Zij zoekt naar betekenis in het materiaal en naar een antwoord op vragen als ‘wat is een object?’ en ‘wat is materiaal?’

Maria Jager streeft naar een verandering van het karakter van de figuren in haar werk. Zij doet dit door ze te veranderen, een metamorfose te laten ondergaan, bijvoorbeeld door te spelen met een ander uiterlijk of voorkomen of een mogelijke ontwikkeling te tonen. Haar fetisj zien we terug in het geknipte en gescheurde collagemateriaal, waar ze soms uren mee bezig is voordat ze aan een werk begint.

Henrik Kröner: “Een tekening doet alsof het een schilderij is? Wat zijn hun definities?
Deze serie nieuwe werken is gemaakt met kleurpotlood of potlood op ongeprepareerd ruitendoek. Door een gelukkig toeval ontdekte hij het eigen karakter van het krijtachtig pigment van een kleurpotlood. Het sterkst zijn de kleuren van een schuine hoek, heel erg schuin. De kleuren worden zwakker als je naar het midden gaat in een halve cirkel beweging. Langzaam verdwijnt de voorstelling of juist andersom. Zoals in een herinnering.”

U bent van harte welkom op de opening. De expositie wordt geopend op zaterdag 17 december om 16.00 door Tsjalling Venema, kunstverzamelaar en galeriehouder van ‘With Tsjalling’.

Expo: “Mastermind” at Galerie AYACS in Amsterdam

Recently, and quite coincidently, I rediscovered the game ‘Mastermind’. I was immediatly enraptured by it. I remembered that I used to play it as a kid. The aim is to crack a colour code in as few steps as possible. You win the game with an intuitive logic: it is a kind of trial and error process.

The opening is on friday the 23rd of april at 5pm, Keizersgracht 166, Amsterdam
